Post doctoral low hook Ling successfully passed the post doctoral exit defense
On April 21, Dr. Hu Jinjin and Dr. low hook Ling of paleoecology research group of Banna botanical garden held a post doctoral defense meeting through video conference. The chairman of the committee is researcher Liu Wenyao, and seven experts are members of the Committee. At the defense meeting, the co tutors, researcher Zhou zhekun and researcher Xing Yaowu, respectively introduced the work of Hu Jinjin and low hook Ling during their stay in the station. Through listening to postdoctoral work reports, reviewing materials and asking sufficient questions, the committee considered that their research topics were novel, and the research results were of scientific significance to the research of global change, plant environment interaction, plant biogeography and system evolution. By secret ballot, the committee unanimously agreed that Hu Jinjin and low hook Ling passed the post doctoral exit defense. Under the guidance of CO Tutor ZHOU zhekun and researcher Xing Yaowu, low hook Ling, a postdoctoral fellow from Malaysia, reconstructed the phylogenetic tree of Coleoptera from Araceae and Araceae. Combined with biogeographical analysis, it is believed that Coleoptera originated from Indochina Peninsula in early Miocene and rapidly differentiated after Miocene. Diversity evolution analysis showed that the differentiation rate of the genus increased significantly from 12 million to 14 million years ago, and several speciation events occurred in Indochina Peninsula, which may be related to the strengthening of Asian monsoon. In addition, based on the first discovery of duckweed like leaf fossils in the upper Oligocene strata of the central Qinghai Tibet Plateau, the characters and molecular sequences of 41 representative species of Araceae were used to infer that this species is a basic branch of duckweed subfamily. Moreover, the characters showed that the nutritional and reproductive organs of plants from extinct group to living group tended to be simplified, showing a better adaptability to the aquatic environment. The discovery of the fossil suggests that the central Tibetan plateau may have been a warm and humid lowland environment during the late Oligocene. During his postdoctoral research, low hook Ling won one general project of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and one international (regional) cooperative research and exchange project of National Natural Science Foundation of China. As the first author, he published two research papers in Journal of systematic palaeontology and webia: Journal of plant taxonomy and geography.
