Banna botanical garden researchers attend 2018 National Symposium on systematic and Evolutionary Botany
From November 23 to 26, the 2018 National Symposium on systematic and Evolutionary Botany and the 13th youth symposium were held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The conference was sponsored by the professional committee of systematic and Evolutionary Botany of Chinese botanical society and the State Key Laboratory of systematic and Evolutionary Botany of Institute of Botany of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and organized by Wuhan Botanical Garden of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Hubei botanical society. More than 500 representatives from Institute of Botany, Kunming Institute of Botany, Wuhan Botanical Garden, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat sen University and more than 100 research institutions and universities in China attended the meeting. This conference includes five topics: plant resources investigation and taxonomy, plant phylogeny and biogeography, plant evolution and development, genomics and new technology, method exhibition and commemoration of Professor Zhong Yang. It has set up 15 conference reports and more than 80 sub conference reports with wonderful contents. Researcher Harald Schneider of macro evolution research group of comprehensive protection center of Banna botanical garden, researcher Li Jie of plant phylogeny and conservation biology research group, researcher Xing Yaowu of Key Laboratory of tropical forest ecology and associate researcher Liu Hongmei of Ministry of landscape and horticulture attended the seminar, Researcher Harald Schneider was invited to give the conference report of new insights to the original of land plants, and associate researcher Liu Hongmei gave the branch report of reconstructing the phylogenetic history of the Pteridophyte Flora of Kenya. At the closing ceremony of the meeting on the 26th, researcher Xing Yaowu, on behalf of Banna botanical garden, campaigned for the right to host the next meeting (in 2020), expecting that the biennial highest level professional academic conference in the field of phylogenetic botany could be held in Banna garden. Researcher Xing Yaowu briefly introduced the history of Banna botanical garden, and the scientific research, species conservation and public education currently being carried out. In particular, there are only 10 research groups engaged in phylogeny and evolution related research work in Banna botanical garden.
